Latin America nearer to you than what you think!
Latin America has a lot to offer and U.S. Americans “Dont realize this!”
The director of “National Geographic Traveler” highlighted tourism culture, cuisine in Latin Merica are lower in prices compared to Europe.
Quito (EFE). Latin America has a great opportunity to attract more American tourists with an offer based on their culture, cuisine and low prices compared to Europe, said in Quito Conaghan Kim, vice president of the editorial group National Geographic.
“I feel that in the last five or ten years Latin America is exploding, has so much to offer and still think Americans do not realize that it is really not very far to visit,” said Conaghan to the news agency EFe, who is the head of Traveler Magazine, National Geographic.
The proximity to a very voluminous source of tourists is one of the strengths of the region and its low cost compared to other destinations, in a time when the finances of Americans still reflect the impact of the economic crisis.
“People think more, where can they go. They want their dollars to last longer, “said Conaghan, who participated today in Quito in the Second forum On Sustainable Tourism of Ecuador, which brought together entrepreneurs from the travel industry.
Europe is very expensive for Americans, so I think there is a great opportunity for Americans to head south, to Latin America, “he added.
For much of the Latin American experience Americans usually ended on the beaches of Mexico, but the increase of violence in that country opens an opportunity to other countries to convince them that there are other places of interest, he said.
Conaghan sees particular potential in the views of young people “more adventurous”, many of whom make a long trip after graduating from college and before entering the labor market.
The U.S. expert recommended that countries in the region should ” stay what they are” and search enhance their products and offers by differentiating themselves from other destinations.
Latin America “is unlike any other place in the world while each country has a unique voice,” said Conaghan, who highlighted the attractiveness of its culture, history, cuisine and its own people.
While in Quito, Conoghan gave the city a recognition by mentioning in the Traveler Magazine as one of the best destinations to visit for 2013, the only latin american city to be honored with this mention for this coming 2013.
Tourism generates income throughout America for 200,000 million and moves about 160 million international tourists, according to the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
America receives 16% of world tourism arrivals and 20% of revenues. Tourism in the whole region grows above the world average, and specifically in South and Central America expands this year between 6 and 7%, when the global rate is 4%, as reported by the responsible WTO a conference in September in Quito.
