Royal Tombs of Sipan will beat record of visits in 2012



Its director, archaeologist Walter Alva said they expect to close the year with over l80.000 tourists. By 2013 and hopes to build a pavilion for temporary exhibitions.

The Royal Tombs of Sipan (Lambayeque), which displays various objects found in the final resting place of the famous Moche ruler, will receive this year more than 180,000 tourists, which will set a record in visitors since it opened a decade ago , said its director, Walter Alva.

This figure, said the archaeologist, would represent an increase of 12% compared to 2011.

Up till the month of November this year the museum has received 176,719 visitors, of which a 157,547 were peruvians and 19,172 foreigners.

With considerable importance Alva said that in the coming days he will present a magazine that explains the meaning of this important discovery made 25 years ago, and added that next year they hope to build a pavilion for temporary exhibitions.

"We want this to be a center for the promotion and dissemination of universal culture. That this museum never fails to present findings, cultural testimonies of other areas of Peru and the world, "he said in statements to Andina.
